According to the Constitution, the Russian Federation is a democratic federative legal state with the republican government.

The state power in the Russian Federation is realized by the President of the Russian Federation, the Federal Assembly (the Federation Council and the State Duma), the Government of the Russian Federation and the Courts of the Russian Federation.

The Head of State is the President of the Russian Federation, who is elected for a term of four years by the citizens of the Russian Federation on the basis of general, equal and direct vote by secret ballot.

The Federal Assembly – the Parliament of the Russian Federation – is the supreme representative and legislative body of the Russian Federation. It consists of two chambers – the Federation Council and the State Duma. Two deputies from each subject of the Federation are members of Federation Council: one from the representative and one from the executive bodies of state authority. The State Duma consists of 450 deputies who are elected for a term of four years.
